The average fare per mile paid by all passengers was cent, against cents in 1898. The average fare per mile paid by local passengers was 1 98 cent. The average fare paid by through passengers was 1 84 cent. From the above statements it will be seen that the average fare paid by through and by local passengers is very nearly the same per mile. The freight transported during the year was tons, increase compared with 1898, tons, or per cent. Freight carried one mile in 1899, tons, increase tons, or per cent. The average rate per ton-mile, was cent in 1898 and cent in 1899. The average distance which freight was transported was in 1898, miles, and in 1899 miles.
