Derailed from the pursuit of his worldly dreams, a deflated Bonaparte hurried to sell the Louisiana Territories once he realized his men could not win against the Haitians. Toussaint Louverture’s selfless acts saved American freedom and made the U.S. prosperous. His acts also led to his demise, thereby sending Haiti’s future adrift.
