These are worn by the women in every-day dress. Plate 17, fig. 7, shows one of these belts of fiber. As a brush for dressing the hair the tail of the porcupine is used (pl. 22, fig. Usually the longer spines are removed and the Skin of the tail is then stuffed either with Shredded tule or with shredded sage-brush bark. In dressing the hair the brush is drawn through it directly against the points of the spines, which, as may be seen from the illustration, lie almost at.
