The scope of our publication describes our family's knowledge, substantiated by research, to develop the most accurate description possible about the beginning and the early development of The Smith Family during the 1920's. Being able to remain anonymous, meant people could volunteer and donate goods etc. when they were able. They could gain the pleasure of giving joy to people that least expected it and maintain their privacy. However, the thousands of people that supported and volunteered, could not have done so and continue to do so, if not for the five original founders. The dedicated work by the five original founders, their families, friends and many others, set the foundation to enable The Smith Family to become the reputable and viable organisation that it is today. The five original founders were, Frederick William Attwells, Norman Gilbert Thomas Grounds, Mr MacDonald, Norman Russell MacKay and Charles Frederick Nielsen.
