Book excerpt: The objective of this study was to assess the contribution of the European Network for Rural Development (ENRD) and the National Rural Networks (NRNs) to the implementation of European Union (EU) Rural Development (RD) Policy. This policy, also called the second pillar of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), concerns 118 Rural Development Programmes (RDPs) implemented at national or regional level in the Member States (MS) for the 2014-2020 programming period.1 This study covers the tasks of the ENRD and the NRN established under Articles 52 and 54 of Regulation (EU) No. 1305/2013 (Rural Development Regulation). The study covers the EU-27 and the United Kingdom. It concerns the 2014-2020 programming period, extended until 2022, with the 2007-2013 period serving as a benchmark. The study was implemented from December 2021 to December 2022, with the observing phase ending in June 2022.
