Book excerpt: In the decade following publication of Rogers' "The Inclusion Revolution," that remarkable revolution has transformed educational practice, teacher training, and far more important the lifetimes of opportunity for millions of America's children. The first generation of children with disabilities to have widespread access to the mainstream has now reached adulthood, leaving educators with a timely opportunity to reflect on the changes wrought in the lives of these children. The last decade has brought with it a shift in the terminology used to discuss inclusion issues. Much of the discussion of whether to include children has become obsolete and, thus, conversations involving whether to mainstream, include, or "fully include" have become less meaningful. The linguistic issues now involve nuances of how children will be served.
