A detailed summary is being made of the track operating, and environmental conditions that prevailed at the time of the derailment. This data will be analyzed to develop common characteristics that led to buckled track. It is very difficult to improve our track structure and gain a more stable. Reliable. And safer track without a quantitative definition of what factors affect the strength of track or how to measure these factors. As a better understanding of factors involved in track strength is gained, the ability to provide safe and reliable track at a minimum cost will increase.
