Based on cr0p condi tions around December 1. 1976, produc tion is forecast at million bushels which, if realized, would be a 9 per cent decline. U. S. Winter wheat acreage seeded in the fall of 1976 for harvest in 1977 totaled million acres, 3 percent less than last year. This halts the trend of steadily increasing acreage that prevailed over the past 6 years. Production of the 1977 winter wheat crop, based on December 1 conditions, is forecast at million bushels, 8 percent below the 1976 crop.
