Book excerpt: An oversize book of B&W photos, taken by Yosuke Yamahata, of Nagasaki, Japan, the day after an atomic bomb was dropped on the city. Yamahata and two other men had been sent there by the Japanese Army to document the effects of the bomb. That day Yamahata filmed 100 images, the most extensive photographic record of the immediate aftermath of the bombings of either Nagasaki or Hiroshima, on which the first atomic bomb had been dropped on August 6th. The book is an essential record of the nuclear age and is even more significant in light of contemporary nuclear proliferation and the potential for nuclear terrorism.
