Book excerpt: Excerpt from Minutes of the Twenty-Second Annual Session of the New River Baptist Association: Held With Pilgrims Rest Church, Fayette County, Ala;, October 11th, 12th and 13th, 1892 The New River Baptist Association met in the 22nd Annual Session with Pilgrims Rest Church, at 11 a.m., and in the absence of Elder W. G. Baker; who had been appointed to preach the Introductory Sermon, Elder J. E. Barnard performed that duty. Text, 3rd chapter 1st Cor. 22 and 23rd verses. Intermission one hour. During the interval partook of a bountiful dinner, served on the ground. Promptly called together at the expiration of the time by Elder G. W. Gravlee, former Moderator. Devotional exercises, led in prayer by former Moderator. Called for letters from the Churches composing tins Association. Appointed brethren James Holliman and A. M. Nuckols reading clerks. (See Statistical Table.) Proceeded to elect officers. Elected Eld. G. W. Givlee, Moderator; A. M. Nuckols, Clerk; L. C. Shirley, Corresponding Secretary; W. F. Baker, Treasurer. Moderator appointed the following committees: On Devotion - G. T. Hassell, T. B. Newton and Deacons of this Church. On Arrangement - L. C. Shirley, W. A. Vice. G. W. McGinnis and J. T. Holliman.
