A student must now pursue these objectives under special pressures from the rapid accumulation of knowledge itself; from change and renewal in theology and the Church itself; from the imposing problems of society in peace and war. There are corresponding advantages, however, to trying to get an education at a time of crisis. We are then closer to the centers of change, can better sense the shape of things to come, can better prepare to play a role in the city of the future. What the faculty intends in setting educational goals and devising courses to achieve them and what administrative offices intend by projecting long-range plans, is a community of effort with students. That means that, beyond the ordinary business of classroom or office, we are trying to create a style of life that requires young men's involvement and drive as well as older men's specialized knowledge and experience.
