Gambia is the smallest country on the African mainland, with a total area of just over 11,000 square kilometers. It has a population of approximately 2 million people, with the majority of the population residing in rural areas. The official language of Gambia is English, inherited from the country’s colonial past as a part of the British Empire. However, the majority of Gambians speak one of several ethnic languages, including Mandinka, Wolof, and Fula. Islam is the dominant religion in Gambia, practiced by approximately 90% of the population. The country’s economy is primarily driven by agriculture and tourism, with peanuts, cotton, and rice being the main crops grown for export. Despite its small size, Gambia has a rich cultural heritage, with music, dance, and storytelling playing important roles in Gambian society.
