Book excerpt: Excerpt from Good Stewards: A Sermon Preached in St. Paul's Church, Cheltenham, Pa., Sunday Evening, December 17th, 1871 Now like this is the grace of God. It is poured forth ceaselessly from the high and holy One, but if we analyze it, by that which has brought him near to us - (the Gospel Of His Son) - we shall find, contained within its living fullness, the seven-fold glory of the Divine nature. It is compounded of all His shining attributes. The more vivid hues Of His power, justice, holiness and truth melt into the softer lines of His wisdom, mercy and love - and grace is the pearly sum of them. We do not reach the whole truth when we think Of it as the Offspring of a single attribute. The cross sublimely testifies that the whole Divine nature is exercised toward this end.' There we behold its richest exhibition, for there mercy and truth met together, righteousness and peace kissed each other.
