Book excerpt: FOREWORD I saw Simon for the first time in 2012 in the International Students¿ Council. I found him joyous, charming, helpful, composed and discerning. I knew him from the periphery of the International office, but we got closer as years went by and I can say that he was one of the finest students. I am delighted to read the book `The Enlightened Darkness¿ by Simon. As I started figuring out this young man, I start realizing his inner struggles. He dwelled in hell with the composure of a priest; he was fighting tough battles every single day of trying to make sense of his past. And then he opened it to us when he narrated his story, and everyone was perplexed to see the most horrifying side of this young man¿s life. Simon¿s story will challenge youth¿s view of life; it will show them what living means and how to appreciate even the emptiness and nothingness of life. It will teach them to be broad and be global citizens, to view the problems of the world, of many others as their own; it will teach them to be inquisitive, to do their thinking and to question every convention and even the most sacred foundations of our human structure. He feels that good people are what the world needs, and stresses emphasis on ¿mental freedom, spiritual freedom¿ freedom to think as a human being and act like a human being, ¿the God-essence person.¿ You don¿t need to be wealthy for this freedom; it¿s a freedom beyond physical things and the external world.
