Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication series of Communications in Asteroseismology (CoAst) is one of the most important international journals in the field of asteroseismology. Asteroseismology is the science concerned with stellar pulsation. Every six months, CoAst publishes a newsletter with papers about the latest results and ongoing research projects. Besides these regular issues, special issues such as conference proceedings or software manuals are published in this series. The first newsletter in 2008 again covers a wide range of scientific research. The papers in this volume report progress and results of ground based and space borne observations of pulsating stars with photometric and spectroscopic techniques. Theoretical papers compare the observational mode identification with seismic models. Furthermore, the European Helio- and Asteroseismic network (HELAS, European Commission's Sixth Framework Program) reports on new tools and structure for scientific exchange among astronomers.
