Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytic and numerical studies of the lattice gauge theories with both Higgs and fermion fields are reported. A chiral transition is found in a wide class of such theories, both abelian and non-abelian. This transition separates each phase diagram into two regions, one with spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking and the other with explicit chiral symmetry. The transition is second order where probed. In models where Yukawa couplings are present, there exists a critical value of this coupling below which chiral transition still occurs. Some physical implications are noted. 10 refs., 5 figs.
