Book excerpt: Sumner Pierce Drinkwater (1859-1942), son of Nicholas Drinkwater (1825- 1908) and Margaret Hannah Gray Drinkwater (1830-1914), and Alice Gray Drinkwater (1861-1915), daughter of Watson Gray Drinkwater (1830-1902) and Sarah E. Staples Drinkwater (1830-1915), were married in 1882. They were both descendants of Joseph Drinkwater (1709-1784) and Janet Lathan Drinkwater (ca. 1715-1794) and both descended from seafaring men. They lived at Yarmouth, Maine. He was captain of the "Grace Deering" 1897-1901, and of the "Benjamin F. Hunt Jr." 1905-1908. He retired from the sea in 1908 and became a tolley motorman.
