This work covers the period of Private and Presidency Banknotes, i.e. 1770 to 1861. The use of Banknotes in India is recorded dating to 1170 when, Bank of Hindostan, came into existence. Later, Bank of Bengal (Established 1809) in 1810 issued their currency notes in Bengal Presidency and so on and so forth, other Banks were established accordingly in the provinces of Bengal, Bombay and Madras.
