Book excerpt: Memoirs of a Hungarian Jewish woman, born Gertrud Mosonyi, in 1924 in Szombathely, Hungary. Pp. 3-56 relate experiences of antisemitism in her hometown, as well as her experiences in the Holocaust. In July 1944 she was deported to Auschwitz; from there she was sent to the labor camp of Hessisch Lichtenau, a satellite of Buchenwald, where she worked in a munitions factory. In April 1945 she collapsed on a death march and was found by French soldiers. She went to Paris, where she was imprisoned for four months under the mistaken impression that she was an SS-woman. After the war she lived in France, South Africa, Israel, and finally in Great Britain.
