Book excerpt: The development of continuous ion exchange (CIX) contactors for the recovery of uranium from metallurgical plant solutions is related to the shortcomings of the older mode of operation in which fixed beds of ion exchange resin were employed. Five CIX designs that have achieved commercial acceptability are described, and performance data are presented for an existing installation typical of each of the systems discussed.
