But no matter what the universe throws at him -- be it some horror from the dark regions of time, the mysteries of outer-space, or an unpredictable tampering with the unknown -- man's ability to reason allows him to adapt, improvise, overcome, and prevail. Therein lies the theme of ATTACK OF THE BLACK SCORPIONS -- a Horror-Creature Thriller that tells its story in uniquely visual prose. The Montgomerys are a middle-class family struggling to make ends meet in today's economy. Our central character is the father, Dan Montgomery -- an over-worked power company lineman. He has a supportive wife, Linda, who is employed as the chief veterinarian at the St. Louis Zoo. Excessive work hours have alienated Dan and Linda from their children -- Jennifer and Patrick. Though crippled from a rare childhood illness, Patrick is a very intelligent and perceptive 13-year-old. But older sister Jennie is jealous of the attention that Dan and Linda have to give Patrick. The story begins with the Montgomerys taking a modest Route 66-type vacation in the American Southwest, driving a borrowed Winnebago. They settle into the campgrounds of a California desert park and join a wide assortment of other characters.A desert oil-fracking operation triggers an earthquake that fissures a nearby rock-bed -- opening an underground cavern and freeing a nest of prehistoric scorpions. Now awake after eons, these twelve-foot monsters ravage the countryside and lay siege to the campgrounds. It falls upon Dan to pull his family and the other campers together, to overcome their differences, and to ingeniously use the materials at hand to survive.Beginning as an homage to the classic "giant bug" movies, the novel makes a quick left turn and launches into a roller coaster thrill ride that will drive social-media buzz over its intensity.Includes Portrait Gallery of Principal Characters.WARNING! SUGGESTED FOR MATURE READERS -- CONTAINS EXTREMELY GRUESOME SCENES DEPICTING INTENSE MONSTER VIOLENCE, along with scenes involving coarse language and sexual situations.
