Book excerpt: Numerical enhancements to the established bearing dynamics computer code, Advanced Dynamics of Rolling Elements (ADORE), have been accomplished for improved computation of bearing heat generation and geometrical variation in bearing element dimensions. Thermal interaction modules have been added to analyze the computed heat generation considering conduction through the element and convection to the circulating fluid or lubricant. Averaging procedures have been implemented to determine the bulk temperatures of the various bearing elements. Well-established methods have been used to compute the associated changes in bearing geometry, which then affect mechanical interaction in the bearing.
