Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 15: A Monthly Journal of Medicine and Surgery; July, 1899 Antipyreti'cs are the remedies with which We reduce temperature and when we come to consider the fact that nearly all diseases with which we meet are accompanied with more or less fever, we at once see that these remedies have a wide field of usefulness in therapeutics. Notwithstanding the fact that some diseases may run a long and fatal course without' fever, we will always find the careful physician taking the tempera ture of his patients often, and when he finds any considerable rise above the nor mal, some antipyretic is usually given. This practice may be, and I believe is, the proper one to pursue in most cases, the mis take we usually make, I think, is in the selection of an antipyretic.
