Proceeding chapters teach readers how to prepare for a public address, organize a presentation to achieve maximum audience understanding and impact, and strategically practice the delivery of a speech. Additional topics include the disadvantages of memorizing a speech word-for-word, the impact of nonverbal communication on an address, and the advantages and disadvantages of different types of speeches or presentations. The text closes with a chapter dedicated to presentational aids and how their correct use can maintain audience engagement and increase understanding. Oral Communication is ideal for undergraduate courses in public relations, broadcast and radio journalism, and communication studies. Gail-Ann G. Greaves-Venzen is an associate professor of communication studies in the Department of Journalism and Communication Studies at Long Island University. She is the director of forensics and the former chair of the Communication Studies Department. She is also an adjunct professor at Pace University and Medger Evers University and the founder of and a consultant at Nnaliag International Marketing. In addition she is a co-founder of Miklah Scrubs LLC. Dr. Greaves-Venzen earned her doctoral degree in rhetoric and intercultural communication from Howard University. Her research focuses on political commentary Calypso music, Caribbean, American, and African culture, intercultural communication, and rhetoric.
