Book excerpt: The anti-ageing movement is a unique movement dedicated to reversing or eliminating ageing or reducing the effects of it. A substantial portion of the consideration of the campaign is on the possibilities for life extension, but there is also an advantage in techniques such as cosmetic surgery which enhance the effects of ageing rather than delay or defeat it. Two motivating proponents of the anti-ageing movement unite Ray Kurzweil, who says kindness can defeat ageing through the advance of technology, and Aubrey De Grey, who says that the human body is a highly complicated machine and therefore, can be repaired indefinitely. One of the notable scientists and supporters to the movement include molecular biologists, biomedical gerontologists, and geneticists such as Gary Ruvkun, Arthur D Cynthia Kenyon, and Levinson. Though, figures in the gerontology community in 2003 tried to distance their research from the observed pseudoscience of the movement Anti-ageing medication has changed a rapidly growing, and developing medical speciality as physicians who initially sought treatment for themselves have undergone training and certification in its usage by organizations such as the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M).
